The next day
At room
Ayesha stood in front of the mirror, combing her hair while her thoughts wandered.
"My eyes are beautiful?" She looked at her eyes "I'm just an average-looking girl and.," she murmured to herself. "And yet, he says he fell for me. There are so many prettier girls in college."
She shook her head, disbelief clouding her face.
Ayesha didn't trust boys who claimed to be in love. To her, they only cared about appearances, and loyalty wasn't something she believed they had.
"There are no fictional heroes in real life, Ayesha," she told her reflection.
She sighed and focused on her thoughts. "I should just concentrate on my studies."
While in the same room, Ameena was quietly lost in her favorite hobby calligraphy.
She had brought all her usual materials, her hands moving with practiced ease."Hmmm, my name always shines like this," she smirked, admiring the elegant curves of her calligraphy.
Time skip
AyeshaΒ was sitting in the bedroom with a mobile in her hand and whispered, "Ya Allah, help me. You know what's best for me...i don't want to meet him now in college.."
Lost in her thoughts, Ayesha didn't notice Ameena sneak up behind her. Ameena placed a hand on her shoulder, startling her.
"Ahhh!" Ayesha screamed, turning quickly.
"What happened? Where were you lost?" Ameena said, laughing at her reaction.
"Nothing! I was just about to call my mom," Ayesha replied, trying to mask her embarrassment.
"Oh, really? But I know what you were thinking. Forget it, yaar. You know I'm here to help you," Ameena said with a wink.
Ayesha smiled, pulling Ameena into a tight hug. "I know, my bestie."
"Okay, okay! Go call your mom now," Ameena said, pushing her gently and grap her book
Ayesha picked up her phone and dialed
As-salamu alaikum, Ammi."
"Wa alaikum assalam, beta. How are you?"
"I'm fine, Alhamdulillah. How are you and Amir?" Ayesha asked, referring to her younger brother.
"We're good. Amir always misses you. He doesn't say it, but I can see it in his eyes especially when he calls out your name and doesn't find you around and When he eats noodles, he always asks, 'How is she?' and talks about you."
Ayesha smiled softly. "I miss him too. Honestly, I thought he'd be thrilled to rule the house without me."
Her mom chuckled. "Hmm, and how's your studying going?"
"Good, Alhamdulillah," Ayesha replied.
They chatted for another half an hour before gently ending the call, hearts a little lighter than before.
Ameena who was watching her asked "Feeling lighter" ?!
Ayesha smiled. "Hmmm, now I feel good."
"Talking to your mom really lifts your spirits, doesn't it?" Ameena said with a grin.
"Yes, it does," Ayesha agreed.
The next morning,
Ayesha and Ameena headed to college. After their lectures, they took a break to pray their afternoon prayers.
As they walked back, they noticed Chawoon standing with his friends, talking. Their conversation seemed to be about Ayesha.
Curious but unable to understand Korean that much, they convinced a classmate to translate. They hid behind a wall as the girl relayed the conversation.
"We gave you a challenge to make her your girlfriend. What happened? Did she say yes?" one of Chawoon's friends, Min Joon, teased.
"No," Chawoon replied with a sigh. "It's the first time a girl has rejected me."
His friends burst out laughing "what...Hahaa..?!!
Chawoon ignored them and continue
"I've never proposed to anyone before," ... He wait for a second seems like lost in a thought and said..
"Girls always come to me, but I reject them because I know they only care about my money and looks.... But Ayesha!..... she impressed me".
His friends were listening while controlling their laughs.
Chawoon continues "she is a different girl..Even though I lied about being a converted Muslim, I thought she wouldn't reject me."
Min Joon laughed louder. "See? I told you she's tough!"
Chawoon shook his head. "You shouldn't have given me this challenge. It wasn't right."
βBut I wanted to see why Muslim girls donβt make boyfriends. And Ayesha was perfect for this. I really wanted to know... I mean, what if a handsome guy proposes? Would they still reject him?β Min Joon said with a teasing smirk. βWell, now we know... thanks to you.β
The group burst into laughter
Ayesha and Ameena exchanged disappointed glances.
"Thank you," Ameena said quietly to the girl who translated.
Ayesha clenched her fists. "Let's go," she said, her voice firm. "I'll teach him a lesson, inshaAllah. Thanks, Allah, for showing me the truth."
Ameena nodded "you should!!"
Later, in the canteen, Ayesha and Ameena sat in the halal section for lunch. After a few minutes, Ameena excused herself, leaving Ayesha alone at the table.
Across the room, Chawoon was sitting with his friends when he noticed her. Without thinking twice, he stood up and walked over.
βHi, Ayesha,β he said, sliding into the seat beside her with a soft smile.
Ayesha glanced at him, then stood and moved to another chair without a word.
Confused, Chawoon asked, "huh...what?"
"I don't want to talk to you. Please leave," Ayesha replied firmly.
"But I.." Chawoon tries to say something
" Listen,β Ayesha interrupted, her tone rising just enough to show her frustration, but not loud enough for others to notice."I know the truth. You only approached me because of a stupid challenge. Do you even realize how much it would hurt someone if they believed you truly loved them, only to find out it was all a game?"
Chawoon looked down, unable to meet her fiery gaze.
"And you lied about being a Muslim! How could you play with someone's feelings like that?"
Tears welled up in Ayesha's eyes, though she quickly blinked them away.
"I'm sorry, Ayesha," Chawoon said, his voice quiet. "I didn't mean to hurt you. Please forgive me."
"No," Ayesha said, her voice cold. "I don't trust you anymore. Stay away from me."
She walked away, her head held high, leaving Chawoon behind with a guilty expression.
Chawoon returned to his friends with a defeated look.
"What happened? Did she reject you again?" Min Joon teased, laughing.
"She knows about the challenge," Chawoon muttered.
Min Joon's laughter stopped. "Really?"
"Yes," Chawoon said. "I told you this wasn't right, but you pushed me into it."
"Relax," Min Joon said, rolling his eyes. "It was just a harmless challenge. She's overreacting."
Chawoon didn't respond. Deep down, he feel guilty.
